This article starts the groundwork of unearthing the potential for a Marxist theory of social movements. It does this by discussing Marx’s theory of human species being and the centrality of praxis in historical materialism. On the basis of this, the article outlines some reflections on conflictual collective action related to the social organization of human needs and capacities.
